# Multiple competing CTAs — dev spec
Site: yahoo.com · Priority 2 · Urgent · Effort: High (5+ days)

## Problem
The homepage presents multiple competing primary CTAs without a clear primary action, diluting user focus and potentially reducing engagement with any single path.

## Evidence (from the live site)
> CTAs on homepage: 'Sign in', 'See more stories on Yahoo 100', 'See forecast'
> Body_sample shows multiple 'Featured' items: weather, horoscope, events, sports scores, and 'Yahoo Scout' chat prompt, all competing for attention.

## Current state
h1: None; cta: Sign in, See more stories on Yahoo 100, See forecast; notes: The homepage lacks a clear primary CTA; multiple CTAs compete for attention.

## Required change
h1: Welcome to Yahoo; cta: Sign in to personalize your feed; notes: Prioritize a single primary CTA (e.g., Sign in) and de-emphasize secondary CTAs to guide users toward a clear action.

## Acceptance criteria
- GIVEN a first-time visitor on the affected page
- WHEN the change is live
- THEN Prioritize a single primary CTA (e.g., Sign in) and de-emphasize secondary CTAs to guide users toward a clear action.
- AND no layout regression at 375px / 768px / 1280px
- AND the changed control is keyboard-reachable with an accessible name

## Tracking
- Fire `cro_multiple_competing_ctas` on interaction with the changed element
- Verify the event fires in BOTH variants before opening traffic

## Test plan
- Two-proportion z-test, 95% significance, 80% power
- 124,891 visitors per variant to detect a 8.0% relative lift
- Run at least one full business cycle; duration depends on traffic

## Rollback
Feature-flag the change; revert if the primary metric drops for 3 consecutive days.
