# Path bypass via nav links — dev spec
Site: yahoo.com · Priority 4 · High · Effort: Medium (2-5 days)

## Problem
The navigation provides direct links to external Yahoo properties (Finance, Sports, Mail) that bypass the homepage funnel, allowing users to leave the primary conversion path without engaging with the main content.

## Evidence (from the live site)
> Nav items on '/' include 'Finance', 'Sports', 'Mail' linking to external domains.
> Users can exit the homepage funnel via these links.

## Current state
h1: None; cta: Nav links to Finance, Sports, Mail; notes: Users can exit the homepage funnel via these links.

## Required change
h1: None; cta: Keep nav but ensure homepage content is compelling enough to retain users; notes: Consider adding a 'Back to Home' or 'Explore More' CTA to encourage return.

## Acceptance criteria
- GIVEN a first-time visitor on the affected page
- WHEN the change is live
- THEN Consider adding a 'Back to Home' or 'Explore More' CTA to encourage return.
- AND no layout regression at 375px / 768px / 1280px
- AND the changed control is keyboard-reachable with an accessible name

## Tracking
- Fire `cro_path_bypass_via_nav_links` on interaction with the changed element
- Verify the event fires in BOTH variants before opening traffic

## Test plan
- Two-proportion z-test, 95% significance, 80% power
- 315,206 visitors per variant to detect a 5.0% relative lift
- Run at least one full business cycle; duration depends on traffic

## Rollback
Feature-flag the change; revert if the primary metric drops for 3 consecutive days.
